Are you a cog in the machine?
“…behavior will not change just because we shift support but powerful corporations ultimately survive on our monetary support. The trend in behavior can and has changed in the name of tiny increments of loss and profit. It is an ongoing struggle but all we have to do is care enough to keep watching and remember we are the “invisible hand” of the market.”
Joey Cape said that. He was speaking about the meaning behind a song that he wrote for his band, Lagwagon, called “The Cog in The Machine.” It’s a great song and if you like rock music, you should check it out. However…
…when you think about the MMO space, doesn’t the same sentiment hold true? Big product vendors and their thousands of units sold, releasing more and more crap products that clearly do not work, onto the market. Sales pages full of lies…
And people complain about it…
Affiliates and smaller vendors make fun of it…
But ultimately what happens?
Those same people are first in line to buy the next over hyped, ultra promoted, piece of crap software or info product.
Those same affiliates and small vendors are right there ready to promote “the next big offer.”
Why? Easy. All chasing that bag. That money bag.
Here’s the thing…
If you want the way things are to change, you have to change how you spend your money in this space.
You have to change who you support as an affiliate AND as a customer.
Stop supporting people who blatantly lie on their sales pages.
Stop supporting people who don’t care about their customers, offer little to no customer support, and fake guarantees that they have no intention of honoring.
Customers, stop supporting people just because you think it’s a quick easy way up, because of some nonsense you read on a sales page. Hold people accountable for their lies by not buying from them anymore. Affiliates, stop supporting people just because you want that support back on your launch.
Those unethical vendors you support ONLY hold all the cards because you gave all the cards to them with your support.
“we are the “invisible hand” of the market.”
It doesn’t have to be what it is.
Many of these vendors have proven that they will do whatever it takes to get you to buy their products. They have justified their lies by saying that people won’t buy if they don’t lie, as if that is an excuse.
It’s simple. Take away support for the vendors who choose to operate in an unethical way. If they lie on the sales page, stop buying from them. Stop supporting their launches. Hold them accountable for the B.S. by removing your financial support.
Until we all do this, greed will win the day and you’ll all be just another “cog in the machine.”
